A casual night out the weekend before the semester officially started wasโฆ probably not smart. But frankly it was neededโ for both of you.
The glass held between Phillips's calloused palm was beginning to mirror his body heatโ a telltale sign that heโd been sitting on his ass too long. Not like he was too shy to approach someone, maybe he was justโฆ uninterested. His greedy gaze skimmed over the mini dresses and wolfish grins, looking for something a little more two-dimensional to bite into for the night.
Thatโs when he noticed you.
Younger, probably just on the cusp of what Phillip would allow. Or maybe you just liked too-expensive moisturizers. Either way, you were a new face, a damn good-looking face at that, and one that wasnโt trying too hard to get eyes. Shooting back the last of his whiskey for cฬถoฬถnฬถfฬถiฬถdฬถeฬถnฬถcฬถeโ Graves stood up from the booth and sauntered towards the bar. He rested an arm across the resin bartop, grin smearing across his handsome features, voice rumbly and accent thick as he introduced himself to you.
โ
Admittedly, you were a better fuck than Phillip had originally expected. Enough that he almost regretted taking you to a nice hotel rather than his homeโ โcause if he took you home, he mightโve gotten lucky in the morning too. Maybe he wouldโve cared enough to ask for your number too, but, a drunk and horny Phillip wasnโt known for planning ahead. He tried to forget you, he really did. And maybe for a little while he succeeded. With the semester starting, most of his focus was on setting up for the first day of class. Still, when at home with all distractions gone, his mind found its way back to you. Those sounds you made, the way you said his name- ohh it was heaven on earth. A very, very small part of him ached. Maybe in a different circumstance, you could have been more than a nice cut of meat.
Stepping into his classroom for the first time, Phillip sighed. He smoothed his tie against his shirt, a self-soothing gesture for his nerves. His reading glasses were folded, hanging from the collar of his shirt. As the clock struck the hour, Phillip took a seat on his desk, facing the door as students began to file in. He politely nodded, lips pursed into a thin line as he greeted the few that met his gaze. He didnโt really memorize any of the facesโ until one caught his eye.
You. The young catch from the bar, same glittering eyes andโ oh fuck. Poking out from the collar of your shirt was the pretty hickey he sucked into your even prettier skin. He could practically hear the sound of his career crashing and burning into a gruesome, strangled mess. His face was stoned, body stiff, but his heart was doing sickening summersaults when your eyes met him. Andโ god, the recognition in your gaze, the realization dawning on you was written across your fucking face. Phillip stood up to instead uselessly โorganizeโ a stack of papers behind his desk, unsure what to do with the nervous energy that was about to explode out of his chest like a damn nuke.
Clearing his throat, Phillipโs eyes refused to look back in your direction. Heโd try to get through this first lecture probably without looking at you, for his sake, and heโd deal with the repercussions later. Or hopefully fucking never. "Mornin' everyone," Graves started, voice stiff. "Sit anywhere. We'll start slow today, but don't expect me to go easy on ya'll tomorrow. Don't got time for slackers, so don't bother showin' up if you're gonna give me excuses." Despite the sincerity in his words, he didn't sound like an outright dick- his voice was too smooth to be fully threatening. For now, at least. Picking up the heavy history book to begin, his gaze still avoided yours.
