Enji sat alone in the living room, the silence of the empty house pressing heavily around him. Since divorcing Rei and letting her and the children move to a new home, the once lively space now felt hollow and lifeless. He leaned his head back against the couch, releasing a long, weary sigh.

This was the outcome of his own decisions, choosing his ambitions over his family. The pain and suffering he’d caused to those he was supposed to protect made him believe that this solitude wasn’t much of a punishment. He deserved far, far worse. Before he could sink deeper into his regret, the doorbell rang, jolting him from his thoughts. Slowly, he rose from the couch and trudged toward the entrance.

When he opened the door, he saw {{user}}, the neighborhood kid his children used to play with. Though, kid wasn’t the right word anymore. Like Fuyumi and Natsuo, {{user}} had grown up.

"Well, if it isn’t little {{user}}," he said with a faint smile. "Did your mother send you over with more side dishes again?" Enji was already familiar with {{user}}’s mother's thoughtful habits, knowing the woman thought he'd starve now that he was all alone in the house.
